Job summary

Matter Cell Press is seeking a Scientific Editor to join the Matter team and help shape the scientific direction of the journal, expand its community, and represent its disciplines across the Cell Press portfolio.

Reporting to the Editor in Chief, you will handle editorial evaluation, develop a cohesive journal, coordinate annual special issues, and help route high‑quality manuscripts to other Cell Press journals while building an influential materials science network.

Qualifications

• PhD in a field relevant to Matter's scope (materials science preferred).
• Editorial experience and ability to evaluate submissions are essential.
• Excellent written and oral English communication.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking editorial evaluation of submissions to ensure scientific quality and significance.
• Developing a cohesive, impactful, and forward-looking journal that reflects Matter's scope.
• Coordinating at least one special issue per year in collaboration with the editorial team.
• Drawing on a network of leading researchers to attract influential submissions to Matter and the Cell Press portfolio.
• Identifying outstanding manuscripts for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press journals.
• Traveling to conferences and research institutes to build community and promote Matter.
• Collaborating with sales, marketing, and production to support growth targets.
• Fostering relationships with other editorial teams across the Cell Press portfolio.
