Job summary

Cell Press is seeking an Associate Scientific Editor for Matter to shape its scientific direction and broaden its community. You will work with the Editor in Chief to grow Matter’s influence in materials science and coordinate special issues and manuscript transfers across the Cell Press portfolio.

The role requires a PhD in a relevant field, strong English communication, and a willingness to travel to conferences and institutes to build community and promote Matter.

Qualifications

• Editorial evaluation of submissions for scientific quality and significance.
• Ability to think conceptually across broad range of topics.
• Strong written and oral English communication skills.
• Active networking to attract high-quality manuscripts.

Responsibilities

• Undertake editorial evaluation of submissions for quality and significance.
• Develop a cohesive, forward-looking journal strategy for Matter.
• Coordinate at least one annual special issue with the team.
• Expand a network of leading researchers to attract influential submissions.
• Identify manuscripts suitable for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press journals.
