Job summary

Cell Press is seeking a Scientific Editor for Matter, a flagship materials science journal. The role involves shaping scientific direction, expanding its community, and coordinating annual special issues while representing Matter across the Cell Press portfolio.

Reporting to the Editor in Chief, you will identify high-impact manuscripts, facilitate transfers, and engage researchers globally to enhance Matter's influence and reach.

Qualifications

• PhD in a field relevant to Matter's scope; materials science preferred.
• Experience with editorial evaluation and manuscript triage.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Editorial evaluation of submissions for quality and significance.
• Shape the journal's direction and scope for Matter.
• Coordinate at least one annual special issue with the team.
• Develop a network of leading researchers to attract submissions.
• Identify manuscripts for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press.
• Travel to conferences and institutes to build community.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and production to meet growth targets.
• Foster ties with other Cell Press editorial teams.
