Job summary

Cell Press’s Matter seeks a Scientific Editor to help shape the journal’s scientific direction, expand its community, and represent Matter within the Cell Press portfolio. Working with the Editor in Chief, you will evaluate submissions and identify manuscripts for transfer or commissioning.

You will travel to conferences, foster a broad network of materials science researchers, and collaborate with colleagues across sales, marketing, and production to support growth targets and editorial

Qualifications

• PhD in a field relevant to Matter's scope, preferably materials science.
• Excellent written and oral English communication.
• Experience with editorial evaluation and manuscript assessment.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking editorial evaluation of submissions to ensure scientific quality and significance.
• Developing a cohesive, impactful journal that reflects Matter's scope.
• Coordinating at least one special issue per year with the editorial team.
• Drawing on a network of researchers to attract influential submissions.
• Identifying manuscripts suitable for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press journals.
• Traveling to conferences and research institutes to build community and identify emerging science.
• Collaborating with sales, marketing, and production to support growth targets.
• Fostering productive relationships with other editorial teams across the Cell Press portfolio.
