Base pay range
$30.00/hr - $40.00/hr
The Lead Carpenter oversees the repair, restoration, and upkeep of retail furniture and fixtures, ensuring high standards of craftsmanship and visual consistency across store environments. This hands-on leadership role involves guiding a small team, planning repair schedules, and executing complex restorations on items such as display fixtures, shelving units, tables, and chairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day carpentry operations focused on the repair and restoration of wood-based retail fixtures and furniture.
- Assess project scopes and prioritize tasks
- Perform high-quality repairs, refinishing, and restoration on a variety of retail elements using traditional and modern techniques.
- Match existing finishes, grains, and construction styles to maintain brand consistency.
- Collaborate with visual merchandising, facilities, or design teams to ensure restoration aligns with current retail standards.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of work performed, materials used, and timelines met.
- Ensure all tools, materials, and workspaces are well-maintained, safe, and compliant with workplace standards.
- Train junior carpenters or support staff on proper restoration techniques and safety procedures.
- Coordinate repair schedules to minimize downtime in active retail environments.
- Source and order materials or parts as needed for custom repairs or larger restoration projects.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience in carpentry, furniture restoration, or fixture repair, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership role.
- Advanced woodworking skills, including joinery, structural repair, and finish matching.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working in retail or commercial environments preferred.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex restoration issues.
- Physically capable of lifting, transporting, and working on heavy or awkwardly sized furniture and fixtures.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between store locations as needed.
