Job summary

AVTEC in Seward invites applications for an Instructor/Department Head to oversee the Alaska Maritime Training Center. You will lead program development, delivery, and assessment, and supervise six full-time instructors and adjuncts.

The role requires strong teaching leadership, coordination with industry partners, and ongoing integration of training technologies within AVTEC’s mission to prepare Alaskans for skilled trades.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
• Leadership: Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to situations.
• Oral communication: Clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively.
• Written communication: Clear, concise, organized, and convincing writing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning, development, and delivery of training programs.
• Lead Alaska Maritime Training Center operations and supervision of six full-time instructors.
• Coordinate use of training technologies like simulators and fire trainer.
• Develop and maintain relationships with maritime advisory board and partner organizations.
