Job summary

BlueCore Energy in Long Beach, CA, seeks Lead Reactor Physics & Shielding Engineer to own neutronics doctrine and radiological safety for a marine compact PWR on a barge. You will define core geometry, enrichment, and shutdown margins while owning shielding analysis and dose mapping for the vessel.

You will lead criticality, kinetics, depletion, and safety cases across fuel life cycles, and design shields and source terms for crew and operations aboard a constrained platform.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Reactor Physics, Health Physics, or radiation transport.
• Hand-on production depth in Monte-Carlo transport and criticality codes such as CASMO/SIMULATE, SCALE, MCNP, Serpent, or OpenMC.
• Demonstrated shielding experience with variance reduction tools like MAVRIC/Monaco, MCNP, or OpenMC.
• Experience with lattice-physics or depletion codes such as CASMO, SCALE, or Serpent.
• Proficiency with nuclide inventories and decay tools such as ORIGEN or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive neutronics support, defining core geometry, enrichment, lattice, and control architecture.
• Own criticality, reactivity coefficients, kinetics, depletion, and cycle length.
• Establish shutdown-margin and safety cases across fuel life cycle.
• Maintain the criticality base deck and SCALE catalog.
• Develop core and coolant source terms and activation/decommissioning sources.
• Design shields and map doses for a space-constrained vessel.
• Analyze radiation streaming with variance reduction techniques.
• Supply neutronics inputs for design chapters and doses.
