Job summary

UC San Diego's Qualcomm Institute seeks a Lead Makerspace Engineer to advise on the design and fabrication of parts using a wide range of processes. You will manage the metal and CNC workshop spaces open to the campus community, ensuring safety, accessibility, and clear user policies.

You will train junior staff and student interns, oversee student workers, and provide expert technical guidance and design/manufacturing services for internal and external clients, collaborating with the Director

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
• Strong skill in machining and setup/calibration of machining equipment (CNC Mill, Lathe, Drill Press, Band Saw, Pan Box Break, LaserCAM).
• Excellent knowledge of 3D printing, laser cutting, CAD/CAM, electronics design and embedded systems, machining, welding, woodworking and composites.
• Engineering principles to independently perform full range of professional design work.
• Strong written and verbal communication and ability to interact with diverse staff and vendors.
• Demonstrated organizational and decision-making abilities to meet deadlines and quality standards.
• Ability to lead and influence others.
