Job summary

UC San Diego seeks a Makerspace Manager to oversee operations, staffing, and safety at the campus makerspace. You will mentor students and staff, provide expert guidance across 3D printing, laser cutting, CAD/CAM, electronics, and CNC machining, and help launch new projects while ensuring smooth daily functioning.

You will supervise undergraduates and volunteers, deliver safety training, and contribute to educational content and outreach efforts.

Qualifications

• Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and methods to independently perform the full range of engineering professional design work.
• Strong knowledge of 3D printing, laser cutting, CAD/CAM, electronics design, embedded systems, manual and CNC machining, welding, woodworking, and composites.

Responsibilities

• Manage shop operations through staffing open hours and alternating shifts.
• Serve as primary point-person for questions and issues; mentor makerspace participants.
• Provide expert technical guidance in 3D printing, laser cutting, CAD/CAM, electronics, and machining.
