Qualifications

Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician provides leadership and hands-on facility maintenance services for properties owned and operated by Caz Recovery. This position is responsible for assisting in coordinating daily maintenance activities, assisting the Facilities Maintenance Manager with work order creation, assignment, tracking, and completion, overseeing vendor work, and performing skilled maintenance and repair work to ensure all agency facilities remain safe, functional, attractive, and compliant with applicable regulations.

The Lead Maintenance Technician serves as the primary field resource for facility operations and works closely with the Facilities Maintenance Manager to prioritize maintenance requests, manage preventive maintenance programs, maintain compliance, and respond to facility emergencies. This position serves as the department’s lead in the absence of the Facilities Maintenance Manager and is responsible for ensuring continuity of maintenance operations during those periods.

Essential Duties
Leadership & Team Coordination
  • Serve as the lead technician and daily field resource for maintenance operations across all agency facilities.
  • Assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager with planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to Maintenance Technicians and support staff.
  • Provide maintenance coverage across all agency facilities by filling in for Maintenance Technicians during absences or vacancies, often on short notice, to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Assist in training new maintenance employees.
  • Monitor the quality, timeliness, and completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, safety practices, and operational efficiency.
  • Assume operational responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Manager during periods of absence, vacation, illness, or other unavailability.
  • Support communication between maintenance staff, program leadership, and agency management.
  • Carries out additional duties essential to the above-stated responsibilities as assigned.
Preventive Maintenance & Work Order Management
  • Assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager with the creation, assignment, scheduling, tracking, and closure of maintenance work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Review incoming maintenance requests and assist with prioritization based on operational impact, safety concerns, and organizational needs.
  • Support the development and administration of preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance inspections and tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate work order records, documentation, labor tracking, and asset maintenance histories.
  • Monitor work order completion metrics and identify recurring maintenance concerns or opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate scheduling and escorting of vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Monitor contractor performance and communicate concerns or deficiencies to the Facilities Maintenance Manager
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of maintenance supplies, tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Assist with procurement recommendations and equipment replacement planning.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and use of agency vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Emergency Response
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation, including phone support, site response, and vendor coordination.
  • Assist in coordinating emergency repairs and restoration efforts.
  • Serve as part of the agency emergency weather response team.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and organizational leadership during emergencies to ensure resident and staff safety.
  • When acting in the absence of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, provide leadership, decision-making support, and operational coordination for maintenance-related emergencies and facility incidents. During these periods, the Lead Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Vice President of Facilities Development and serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance operations, facility issues, and emergency response activities.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day leadership, coordination, and technical guidance for maintenance operations.
  • Assists with assigning work, monitoring productivity, and ensuring quality standards are met.
  • May direct the daily activities of Maintenance Technicians and contractors as assigned.
  • Serves as acting Facilities Maintenance Manager when the manager is unavailable and assumes responsibility for maintaining daily department operations during those periods.
  • Is mindful of and integrates Trauma-Informed Care and its five principles in all duties and interactions with fellow staff, residents, and external partners.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Minimum five (5) years of building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or related trade experience.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating maintenance work, and maintenance teams.
  • Experience using CMMS software for work order creation, assignment, documentation, and preventative maintenance tracking
  • Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance operations and independently manage maintenance priorities when supervisory staff are unavailable.
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and reliable automobile.
  • Preferred Certifications (not required but valued):
  • HVAC certification
  • Electrical or plumbing license
  • Fire Safety Inspector certification
  • Building inspection certification
  • The agency may require or support advanced training in relevant trade areas.
