Job summary

Qualifications

  • Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent is required.
  • Associate degree (AS/Applied Science) or comparable preferred.
  • Proven leadership or SME experience on a production shift.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Lead Maintenance Technician Position Summary

The 2nd Shift Lead Maintenance Technician is a hands‑on, working lead responsible for overseeing maintenance and technical support activities during second shift operations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production through equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, machine builds, and technical guidance to team members. The Lead Maintenance Technician partners closely with 1st Shift Assembly Leadership, Quality Control, and Engineering to maintain workflow continuity, equipment reliability, and adherence to quality standards. This position serves as the primary technical resource for the 2nd shift and sets expectations for productivity, safety, and quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the working lead for 2nd shift maintenance staff, providing daily direction, coaching, and task prioritization.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient workflow throughout the shift, adjusting assignments as needed to meet production and quality goals.
  • Communicate shift status, outstanding issues, and priorities to 1st shift leadership and maintenance teams to ensure continuity.
  • Provide hands‑on troubleshooting and support for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, sub‑assembly, machine builds, and interpretation of blueprints, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Coach and support new or less experienced employees on proper processes, troubleshooting techniques, and safe equipment operation.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Committee to ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and help resolve quality‑related issues; recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Work closely with Quality Technicians to support in‑process inspections, verify equipment meets specifications, and resolve quality concerns efficiently.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis for equipment failures or quality issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
  • Communicate deviations, rework requirements, or quality concerns to the Assembly Supervisor and Quality Control team.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent required; Associate of Applied Science or comparable degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4–6 years of maintenance technician experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working in a union manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or experience serving as a subject‑matter expert on a production shift.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams.
  • Computer proficiency, including maintenance management systems, email, and documentation tools.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate tools and equipment; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

The work environment is typical of a manufacturing setting. Employees may be periodically exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise levels are generally moderate. This position requires the ability to pass a competency test, pre‑employment drug screen, and background check.
