Job summary

Behr Iron & Metal, an Alter Trading Corporation Company, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to oversee and perform maintenance on plant equipment at our Rockford, IL site. The role demands hands-on mechanical work, leadership of a maintenance team, and a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years in a maintenance environment, relevant technical certifications or a two-year degree, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a similar maintenance environment
• Diesel power over hydraulic experience preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Willingness to work outside

Responsibilities

• Actively promote plant safety programs and procedures to follow company and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee maintenance and preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting and repair.
• Direct team engaged in maintenance and repair of plant equipment, machinery and facilities, including electrical repair.
• Provide mechanical expertise to reduce equipment downtime.
• Maintain documentation and records to track equipment status.
• Communicate with the team to keep the department and facility manager informed on equipment availability.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
