Job summary

United States Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk Naval Shipyard is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic Leader in the Production Resources Department to oversee maintenance operations and lead a small team of skilled workers. You will ensure crew members have plans, tools, and instructions to perform their duties safely and effectively.

You will train and guide up to 10 workers, coordinate interdepartmental work, and monitor quality while maintaining timely progress on tasks in a highly demanding

Qualifications

• Screen-out: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
• Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints; utilize shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects.
• Ability to perform the full range of tasks including being skilled in the use of tools and equipment common to the trade and be skilled in safety precautions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure journeymen have plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their work operations.
• Coordinate work while assuring proper intertrade and inter-shop coordination, high quality assurance with timely, orderly completion.
• Maintain close observations of all work operations; ensure adherence to procedures and keep supervisor informed of problems.
• Take action to prevent bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns; ensure proper types and amounts of equipment at the job site.
• Maintain computer records of expended man hours and close out jobs when completed.
• Provide on-the-job training for up to 10 workers under your leadership, correct improper work methods, and ensure procedures are followed.
