Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command seeks a Maintenance Mechanic Leader within the Production Resources Department (900) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. The role leads a team of up to 10 and ensures efficient shop operations.

You will provide technical direction, ensure plans and procedures are followed, supervise journeymen, monitor hours, and coordinate intershop activities to maintain high quality and timely job completion.

Qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Responsibilities

• You will ensure journeymen have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their work operations.
• You will coordinate work while assuring proper intertrade and inter-shop coordination, high levels of quality assurance with timely yet orderly job completion.
• You will maintain close observations of all work operations; assure proper adherence to procedures and guidelines, as well as keeping the first line supervisor informed of problems associated with these items.
• You will take appropriate action to prevent and/or overcome bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns, assure that proper types and amounts of equipment are at the job site.
• You will maintain computer records of expended man hours, and closing out jobs when completed.
• You will provide on the job training for up to 10 workers under your leadership, correct improper work methods, and ensure assigned work procedures are being followed.
