Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to design, enhance, and support healthcare claims applications from a remote location in the United States. You will collaborate with analysts, QA, PMs, and offshore/on-site teams to deliver reliable mainframe solutions.

The role focuses on translating requirements into scalable COBOL-based systems, leading code reviews, and ensuring smooth deployments across environments. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience developing mainframe applications with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.
• Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and related business workflows.
• Knowledge of code migration and release management, including package creation, environment promotion, deployment validation, and backout procedures.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex application and production issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively in an Agile, onsite and offshore delivery environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.
• Translate business requirements into scalable mainframe solutions for claims adjudication workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, conduct code reviews, and implement fixes.
• Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, code migration, production deployment, and post-implementation validation.
• Provide technical leadership to offshore teams and coordinate onsite/offshore delivery.
