Job summary

FIS is seeking a Lead Database Administrator for Db2 for z/os in Georgia. You will design, implement, and optimize database environments, coordinate with developers and support teams, and ensure security, reliability and disaster recovery readiness.

You will mentor junior DBAs, lead on-call rotation, and contribute to documentation and best practices as part of a global fintech organization.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of Db2 for z/os experience in production environments.
• Installation, customization, testing, and maintenance of database systems in production settings.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and independent task ownership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across technical and application teams.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing of database software and IBM utilities in sandbox environments before production rollout.
• Coaches less experienced DBAs as they begin to perform routine tasks.
• Schedules database tasks and ensures proper completion of scheduled tasks.
• Executes database recovery tasks during disaster recovery scenarios or exercises.
• Improves reliability and efficiency of database processes and services.
• Monitors database performance to identify bottlenecks and recommends corrective actions.
• Collaborates with Applications Team to troubleshoot and support solutions.
• Produces and maintains operational database documentation, including disaster recovery and performance tuning.

Summary of This Role

Plans Db2 for z/os databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. Ensures accuracy, completeness and availability of data using various IBM support tools. Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Researches and resolves database issues. The Lead DBA has more knowledge and experience in the inner mechanics of Db2, & who talks with IBM on DB2 issues. The Lead will be involved in mentoring and passing on that knowledge to less experienced DBAs

What Part Will You Play?

• Performs testing of database software, IBM utilities and fixes within a test (sandbox) environment prior to production roll out. Identifies and resolves issues while in the sandbox and upper environments. Performs the migration of tested/approved structures, utilities, and fixes to the production environment. Develops basic to moderately complex database configurations by creating database objects per specified business requirements according to standards and the necessary sandbox environments for testing. Works in close liaison with application developers and tech support to ensure best practices are applied to mitigate potential impacts or risks to the various user groups and/or other database configurations.
• Coaches less experienced Database Administrators (DBAs) as they begin to perform routine/basic database administration tasks.
• Schedules database tasks and ensures proper completion of scheduled tasks.
• Execute database recovery tasks during a disaster recovery scenario and/or disaster recovery exercise.
• Improve the reliability and efficiency of database processes and services.
• Ensure the high availability of the supported database(s) by actively monitoring database performance to identify bottlenecks, such as inefficient queries, inconsistent and/or corrupt indexes, database design, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
• Applies routine database tuning and optimization techniques, such as rebuilding indexes, to maintain database performance. Monitor database statistic reporting on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Works closely with the Applications Team while performing troubleshooting to determine the source of application failures. Assists in the development of solutions to minimize the potential of future application failures. Supports the implementation of solutions.
• Produces and maintains operational database documentation, such as Disaster Recovery, Recovery Presentation, Naming Standards, Performance and Tuning, to ensure database configurations are well documented in preparation for disaster recovery.
• Assists in the training and familiarization of less experienced team members regarding company policies and procedures, techniques and current server/database configurations.
• Participate in Oncall rotation and occasional outages.

• Bachelor's Degree
• LUW Db2 experience is a plus
• Programming, operations or tech support experience is a plus

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $111,650.00 - $189,810.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay.
