Job summary

UCAR is seeking a Machinist-Instrument Maker Level III to perform advanced high-precision machining for research instruments in the DFS shop. This role collaborates with scientists and engineers to develop manufacturable solutions and may lead fabrication projects.

The position requires extensive experience in machining, CAD review, GD&T, and CAM programming, with on-site work at Foothills Lab in Boulder, CO. Hybrid flexibility is limited; all work occurs in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Completion of a relevant machine trade vocational program and 6+ years of high precision machine trade experience.
• Ability to plan, perform high-precision machining and fabrication for research instruments.
• Experience with CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturability evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC and manual machine tools to produce complex, high-precision research instruments.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, designers, technicians, and other instrument makers on instrument design and development.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring; may act as project leader on fabrication projects and ensure safety compliance.
