Job summary

General Plastics & Composites LP in Houston seeks an experienced production supervisor to lead a team, enforce work instructions, and ensure safety and quality. You will audit processes, manage scheduling, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

You should be able to train staff, handle equipment issues, and work closely with supervision to meet daily production goals and customer requirements. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure employee safety and identify problems to supervisor for correction, providing immediate resolution.
  • Audit work orders for defects in product and paperwork to meet quality objectives.
  • Audit and ensure quality processes and customer requirements are met.
  • Supervise production personnel to follow routings, drawings, and processes.
  • Alert supervisor and assist in resolving equipment and tooling issues.
  • Ensure personnel are competent and provide guidance and training as required.
  • Setup and operate machine tools to meet daily customer requirements.
  • Assist in daily production scheduling via machine and operator allocations.
  • Provide input for employee performance appraisals.
  • Maintain shop areas and oversee preventive maintenance and department organization.
  • Assist with process improvements aligned with company goals.
  • Work with supervisor on Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations.

Job description

  • Ensure employee safety and identify problems to immediate supervisor for correction. Provide immediate resolution to correct safety issues.
  • Audit work orders entering and leaving the department for defects in product and paperwork to ensure quality objectives are being met and that defects are not received from other departments or passed on to our customer.
  • Audit and ensure all quality processes are being followed and product is being produced to customer requirements.
  • Supervise production personnel as assigned to ensure that all work is done according to the appropriate work instructions (routings, drawings, processes and other documentation).
  • Alert supervisor and assist in resolution of equipment and tooling issues.
  • Ensure personnel assigned are competent to perform task(s) assigned to them and provide the necessary guidance and training as required.
  • Setup and operate machine tools as needed to meet daily requirements of the customer.
  • Assist in the execution of the daily production schedules though machine and operator allocations and communicate challenges to supervisor.
  • Provide input, as needed, to the supervisor for employee performance appraisals.
  • Maintain assigned shop areas and oversee equipment preventive maintenance, cleanliness, and overall department organization.
  • Assist with the implementation of process improvements that drive towards company goals.
  • Work with supervisor for timely completion of all Root Case and Corrective Action investigations
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Use professionalism and leadership skills to promote company goals and enforce company policies and procedures
  • Assist the department supervisor with coordinating and directing production workers to achieve production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Assist with leadership functions such as employee development; provide input for employee performance reviews, conduct On the Job (OJT) training as required, and resolve conflicts.
  • Communicate effectively in face-to-face discussions, department meetings, and in emails.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Strong understanding of shop practices and methods.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Use experience, logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrate personal time management skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills – strong reading, writing, and speaking skills, including public speaking.
  • Strong knowledge of the use of standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages, Micro-Height Gages, Molds, Optical Comparator and Depth Gages.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming/languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol) and thorough knowledge of how to create and edit programs.
  • The ability to give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel etc.)
  • Knowledge of and commitment to GP&C systems, processes and procedures.
  • Must have an understanding of basic shop math and geometric tolerances as related to GP&C drawings and standard Manufacturing methods.
Educational Requirements:
  • Read, write and understand English and be able to communicate with other employees.
  • Self-starter and work with minimum supervision.
  • Proven track record with managing day to day production expectations, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify and address problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Move heavy parts (>100 pounds) using cranes, slings, carts, and other handling devices. Move less heavy parts (<25 pounds) with or without cranes, slings, carts and other handling devices. Follow parts handling requirements.
  • Stand and/or sit for extended hours and be able to perform work in difficult positions. Have the ability to climb in and out of machines, up and down stairs to check work.
