Job summary

General Plastics & Composites LP seeks an experienced CNC/Manual Machinist to set up and operate multiple machine tools, read blueprints, and ensure parts meet GD&T specifications. The role requires 7+ years of hands-on machining experience in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining accuracy with precision measuring tools, performing preventative maintenance, and adhering to safety and SOP guidelines in a Houston, Texas manufacturing facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of experience with manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency with handheld measuring tools.
  • Knowledge of machine safety practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to engineering instructions and SOPs.
  • Perform machine setups on manual and CNC machines for all programs and parts.

  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per PM program.
  • Verify gauge calibration for accuracy.

Job description

  • Adhere to all engineering instructions, standard operating procedures, and departmental procedures.
  • Perform machine setups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types, with minimal to no assistance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for all processes and programs.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow all prescribed safety regulations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines in accordance with the company’s PM program.
  • Verify gage calibration to ensure measurement accuracy.
  • Set up and configure machine fixturing as required.
  • Utilize and maintain proficiency in CNC programming languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol), including creating and editing programs.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Use standard measuring tools, including but not limited to micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), calipers, bore gages, protractors, height gages, micro-height gages, molds, optical comparators, and depth gages.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Assist other departments as needed with approval from management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • 7+ years of experience working with manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Skills:
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of handheld measuring tools.
  • Knowledge of machine safety practices.
  • Understanding of job orders and production processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and specifications.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Required to work in a shop environment which may include hot or cold temperatures, humidity, high noise levels and hazardous fluids such as coolants and lubricants.
  • Willing and able to machine and handle a wide variety of materials, including but not limited to, Fiberglass Composites, Plastics, Metals and other Alloys.
