Job summary

Blue Origin on Merritt Island, FL is seeking an experienced leader to manage the machine shop within our Operations group. You will drive production, safety, and continuous improvement for high-tolerance aerospace components.

You will mentor staff, plan workloads, and partner with design for manufacturability to ensure on-time delivery of mission-critical parts. This role demands strong leadership, GD&T expertise, and a passion for spaceflight.

Qualifications

• 4 years minimum of leadership experience.
• 7 years minimum experience in machining aerospace components.
• Root cause and corrective action analysis experience.
• Familiarity with KPI metrics.
• Excellent blueprint reading including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994.
• Strong communication with a heavy customer focus.
• Continuous improvement mindset.
• Understanding production vs development environments.
• Fluent in precision hand tools.
• Familiar with personal computers.
• Self-motivation and prioritization of projects.
• U.S. citizenship or eligible status required.

Responsibilities

• Own machine shop daily operations and personnel management.
• Conduct performance reviews for team.
• Assign work stations, training, overtime, and backups.
• Maintain machine shop schedule status to meet customer expectations.
• Provide first-level HR issue escalation and support.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
• Maintain calibration program for shop equipment.
• Oversee 5S, Lean, Cleaning and Safety programs.
• Ensure adherence to work instructions and quality standards.
• Record staff attendance and times accurately.
• Provide training and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure start-up readiness for production.
• Maintain shop organization, safety, and cleanliness.
• Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates.
• Conduct interviews and hiring recommendations.
• Operate safely in an industrial environment.
