Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior machine shop leader to guide day-to-day operations, drive continuous improvement, and ensure on-time delivery of high-tolerance aerospace components. You will supervise staff, plan workloads, and coordinate with design for manufacturing to optimize production.

The role demands extensive machining experience, strong GD&T expertise, and a customer-focused approach in a safety-driven culture. WA state facility experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of leadership experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in machining aerospace components.
• Root cause and corrective action analysis experience.
• Familiarity with KPI metrics.
• Excellent blue print reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994.
• Strong communication skills with a heavy customer focus.
• Must have a continuous improvement mindset.
• Clear understanding of production versus development environments.
• Fluent in use of precision hand tools.
• Familiar with use of personal computers.
• Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates.
• U.S. citizen or national or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Own machine shop personnel and day-to-day operations and execution.
• Conduct performance reviews.
• Establish work station assignments, employee training and scheduling.
• Maintain and communicate machine shop schedule status to meet customer expectations.
• Provide first level escalation support to HR issues.
• Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities and implement changes to improve process.
• Maintain shop calibration program for measuring equipment.
• Maintain shop programs including 5S, Lean, Cleaning and Safety.
• Ensure agents follow work instructions, quality requirements and processes.
• Record staff data (clock-in/clock-out).
• Provide training and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure start-up readiness for production.
• Maintain shop organization, safety and cleanliness.
• Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates.
• Interviews and hiring recommendations.
• Work safely in an industrial environment.
