Job summary

M.C. Dean in Tysons, VA, is seeking a Design Engineer 3 to independently manage lightning protection design tasks, from risk analysis to detailed shop drawings. You will apply NFPA 780, coordinate with architectural, structural and electrical teams, and develop complete design deliverables.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of design experience, Revit and AutoCAD proficiency, and travel to project sites for surveys and inspections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of design engineering experience.
• Knowledge of lightning protection and NFPA 780 preferred.
• Ability to produce complete design deliverables and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain design basis, scope, requirements traceability for assigned systems.
• Apply codes, standards, safety requirements, and client requirements to moderately complex designs.
• Perform calculations, studies, modeling, evaluations, and design validations.
• Develop system architecture and interface documentation; coordinate interfaces across disciplines.
• Produce complete design deliverables (drawings, specs, diagrams, BOMs, packages).
• Evaluate equipment/materials; validate submittals against design intent.
• Integrate field conditions and constraints into designs; respond to RFIs and field issues.
• Incorporate testing, commissioning, and turnover requirements into designs.
• Travel to project sites to survey conditions and inspect installations.
