Job summary

Ymca Of Central Maryland, Inc. seeks a Head Lifeguard to oversee lifeguards, swim instructors, and pool operations, ensuring a safe, high-quality experience for members and guests.

You’ll supervise staff, help with scheduling, and uphold YMCA safety standards across programs and events. The role requires current lifeguard certifications, CPR/AED/First Aid, and instructor qualifications, plus supervisory experience and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard certification is required.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification (O2) within 30 days of hire.
• Lifeguard Instructor certification or within 60 days of hire.
• Pool Operator certification.
• Successful completion of YMCA swim test.
• At least 2 years YMCA or relevant program experience (supervisory preferred).
• Flexible schedule including evenings/weekends.
• Strong communication and computer skills.
• Complete new associate training (Child Abuse Prevention) before first shift.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision of lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic programs.
• Assist with scheduling and evaluating staff to maintain quality service and safety.
• Monitor pool safety and enforce YMCA policies and best practices.
• Communicate effectively with members, participants, and parents.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, or unusual situations and escalate as needed.
• Maintain rosters, enrollment records, and required paperwork.
• Ensure programs follow YMCA standards and best practices.
• Lead in-service trainings and staff development sessions.
• Serve as a role model in member engagement and service quality.
• Coordinate and optimize pool space for programs and events.
• Promote aquatic programs in coordination with marketing efforts.
