Job summary

Stanford University Libraries seeks a full-time Head of Conservation Services to lead the Preservation Department's conservation program for special collections. You will manage two book conservators, a paper conservator, and two technicians, coordinating treatment, housing, and loans to local and international venues.

Based at the Redwood City campus with work on the historic campus as needed, the role emphasizes collaboration, workflow development, and advancing best practices in library

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or advanced conservation credential.
• Five+ years of experience in an established conservation lab for a research library or cultural heritage institution.
• MLIS/MLS preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of Conservation Services; supervise staff.
• Lead conservation treatment projects and coordinate with external vendors.
• Oversee conservation support for an active exhibit loan program to local, national, and international venues.
• Develop sustainable workflows aligned with department and library priorities.
