Job summary

City of Chicago Department of Law seeks a Lead Forensic Scientist in the Latent Prints unit within CPD’s Forensic Services. Under supervision, you will supervise examinations, train staff, and ensure admissible results for investigations and court presentations.

The role covers evidence handling, quality control, and reporting, with shifts 6:00AM–2:00PM or 2:00PM–10:00PM and career-service status. Candidates must have advanced degrees and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science or related field with 4 years of forensic work experience.
• Master’s degree with 3 years of forensic experience.
• IAI latent prints certification within 6 months of hire.
• Other professional certifications in forensic science as required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee receipt, collection and preservation of evidence.
• Distribute and monitor staff work assignments for accuracy.
• Draft discipline-specific policies, procedures, and methods.
• Perform independent casework in a primary forensic discipline.
• Conduct complex evaluations and testing to identify and classify evidence.
• Prepare reports and court-ready findings and testify as needed.
• Maintain compliance with accreditation standards and protocols.
