Job summary

The City of San Diego is seeking a Latent Print Examiner Aide to perform routine latent print analysis in the crime laboratory and search latent print evidence through Automated Latent Print Systems (ALPS). You will process items of evidence, prepare and maintain records, and handle administrative duties for the Latent Print unit.

Applicants must meet one of the specified education options, have 100 hours of relevant experience, and possess a valid California Class C Driver License.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the following education options: 80 hours of formalized training in ten-print or latent print examinations, or an Associate's Degree or higher in forensic or physical science, or a Certificate in Forensic Technology with college-level coursework in basic and advanced fingerprinting.
• Experience requirement includes 100 hours in latent print processing, ten-print examinations, or latent print examinations.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in a forensic or physical science may substitute for the 100 hours of experience; a valid California Class C Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine latent print analysis in the crime laboratory and search latent print evidence through ALPS.
• Process items of evidence from crime scenes for latent prints and maintain examinations records.
• Perform administrative duties for the Latent Print unit, including evidence retrieval, filing and scanning case packets, and verifying information for completeness and accuracy.
