Job summary

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Transportation Planning Specialist 5 to serve as the Principal Landscape Architect & Environmental Mitigation Program Supervisor in the Southwest Region. Lead landscape architecture, roadside restoration, environmental assessment, and asset management across multiple programs.

You will guide staff, oversee wetland mitigation, and coordinate design, planning, and contract documents for environmental and roadside projects.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Professional Landscape Architect in Washington State (or eligible to obtain WA licensure within six months).
• Ability to travel regularly within the Southwest Region to project sites and attend meetings.
• Experience in landscape architecture, environmental mitigation, and roadside asset management.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance for agency staff and partners for WSDOT Roadside Policies.
• Lead the planning, scoping, and preparation of technical reports and contract plans for restoration and mitigation projects.
• Supervise two direct reports (Transportation Planning Specialist 3) and oversee project delivery.
• Provide technical expertise to the Wetland Assessment and Environmental Mitigation Planning Program.
• Manage scoping, setup, and funding for environmental/roadside mitigation projects.
• Apply Visual Quality and RCA expertise in project design and execution.
