Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation, District 3, is seeking a licensed Land Surveyor to support survey operations across Northwest Iowa. You will lead field crews, apply surveying laws, operate total stations, GPS, and CADD/Cogo, and ensure accurate data for transportation projects.

Relocation assistance may be available; applicants may obtain full licensure within 5 months. A Class C DL is required; licensure is preferred for advancement.

Qualifications

• Professional Land Surveyor license in Iowa or able to obtain within 5 months.
• Valid Iowa Class C Non-Commercial Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Lead field survey crews and conduct land, topographic, and construction surveys.
• Apply land surveying laws to re-establish property boundaries and support district coordination.
• Operate and maintain surveying equipment (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
• Use COGO, CADD, and data editors for data processing and map creation.
• Research land ownership and historical records to determine boundaries.
• Review engineering plans to ensure data accuracy for survey docs.
• Create detailed survey plats using CADD and perform calculations to close surveys.
• Inspect work to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
• Prepare and review Public Land Corner Certifications per Iowa code.
