Job summary

NRDC in the United States seeks a Land Conservation Director/Senior Attorney to lead a diverse team of lawyers, scientists, and policy advocates. You will defend public lands, oversee priority campaigns, and coordinate with NRDC leadership, fundraising, and communications.

The role requires managing staff, providing legal guidance on priority strategies, and leading state and federal advocacy, with travel up to 20% nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Law degree required.
• 7+ years of experience in legal and/or policy advocacy, including 3 years in management.
• Experience leading state or federal campaigns, litigating and advocating for public lands.

Responsibilities

• Lead the land conservation team of lawyers, scientists and policy advocates.
• Develop and lead Land Conservation strategies aligned with fundraising priorities.
• Represent NRDC in public forums, administrative proceedings, and media outlets.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners, coalitions and decisionmakers.
• Oversee staff performance, mentoring and development to meet division priorities.
• Provide legal guidance on priority strategies and oversee litigation in collaboration with NRDC’s Litigation Team.
