Job summary

Safran Defense & Space, Inc. in Ventura/Oxnard area seeks a Principal Engineer for IR camera systems. You will shape architecture, define requirements, and lead lab work across optics, electronics, firmware, and detectors, guiding program direction and technical strategy.

The role emphasizes external customer engagement, technical reviews, and mentorship while operating with a lean, small-company ethos. Active DoD clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on IR camera systems development: architecture, requirements, integration.
• Cooled SWIR or MWIR experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of detector arrays, ROIC interfaces, cryocooler integration.
• Ability to obtain Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary technical authority for Attollo's SWIR/MWIR camera products and related sensor technologies.
• Work in the lab on assembly, integration, validation, test, and hardware/firmware/software troubleshooting.
• Lead design reviews across hardware, firmware, software, and optics.
• Define and refine electrical, optical, mechanical, firmware, and environmental requirements.
