Job summary
Safran Defense & Space, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer for IR camera systems in the Ventura/Oxnard area. You will own SWIR/MWIR product line direction, drive design trade-offs, and mentor teams across optics, electronics, firmware, and detectors.
The role blends external customer engagement (requirements, proposals) with hands-on lab work, troubleshooting, and setting technical direction for active programs. A DOD clearance is preferred.
Qualifications
- Hands-on IR camera systems development: architecture, requirements, integration, characterization.
- Experience with cooled detectors; IDCA fundamentals and cryocooler integration.
- Ability to define and negotiate multi-disciplinary requirements with customers.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical authority for SWIR/MWIR camera products and sensor tech.
- Collaborate in the lab on assembly, integration, validation, test, and troubleshooting.
- Lead design reviews across hardware, firmware, software, and optics.
- Define electrical, optical, mechanical, and environmental requirements for products.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to lightweight processes.
