Job summary

City of Chicago is seeking a Supervisor of Business Compliance Investigations to oversee a team of investigators ensuring adherence to city ordinances related to business compliance, consumer protection, and public vehicles. The role involves field supervision, project planning, and coordination with other departments.

Responsibilities include staff training, performance reviews, policy development, and cross‑agency collaboration to resolve complex cases.

Qualifications

• Must have an associate degree or higher in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in investigations, research and report writing, code enforcement, and/or regulatory compliance.
• Sixty (60) semester hours of college credit in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in investigations, research and report writing, code enforcement, and/or regulatory compliance.
• Five (5) years of work experience in investigations, research and report writing, code enforcement, and/or regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day investigations and ensure compliance with city ordinances.
• Supervise and monitor staff conducting investigations on business compliance, consumer protection, weights and measures, and public vehicles.
• Plan enforcement projects and coordinate license investigations with other City departments.
• Coordinate large‑scale investigations needing inter‑departmental and external agency collaboration.
• Review reports for completeness and action appropriateness in the IRIS system.
• Develop and implement policies to improve unit efficiency and performance.
• Coordinate confiscation of illegal merchandise and shutdown of non‑compliant businesses with law enforcement.
