Job summary

The University of Houston invites applications for the Assistant Director of Internships and Applied Experiential Learning. The position develops strategies to increase student participation, provides career coaching, and supports staff and institutional initiatives while aligning with university goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Advising, Higher Education Administration, Social Work or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience, management experience, higher education experience.
• Master’s degree in Counseling, Advising, Higher Education Administration, Social Work or related field.

Responsibilities

• Leads the development, implementation, and assessment of applied experiential learning opportunities, including internships, mentoring, job shadowing, project-based learning, research, field experiences, and practicums.
• Develops, implements, and monitors strategies, initiatives, and promotional efforts to increase student participation in experiential learning opportunities and enhance student career readiness.
• Provides consultation, guidance, and support to academic colleges, faculty, and university partners in the development, expansion, and administration of experiential learning opportunities.
• Cultivates and maintains relationships with employers, community organizations, alumni, and external partners to expand experiential learning opportunities and strengthen workforce engagement.
• Provides individualized career coaching, facilitates workshops, and administers career assessment tools to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni.
• Contributes to staff development, employer engagement initiatives, and career coaching best practices by providing guidance, training, and support to departmental staff.
• Supports departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives, events, professional development activities, and benchmarking efforts to maintain awareness of emerging trends and best practices in experiential learning and workforce development.
• Supervises professional and support staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, coaching, professional development, and disciplinary actions in accordance with university policies and procedures
