Job summary

Slate Auto in Troy, Michigan, is seeking a Sr Design & Release Engineer (DRE) – Interior Cockpit to lead the design, development, and integration of phone holder, iPad holding mechanisms, and cockpit trim systems for Slate vehicles.

You will own mechanical retention systems, detent mechanisms, and usability, driving APQP processes, PPAP documentation, and cross‑functional reviews to meet performance and safety targets across the vehicle lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in automotive mechanism system engineering.
• Experience with design of mechanical retention systems and interior trim.
• Experience releasing components in a PLM environment and handling engineering changes.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements (FMVSS, NHTSA, CARB, EPA, FCC).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, validation, and launch of cockpit components.
• Interface with HVAC, body structures, soft trim, and electrical systems.
• Define kinematics, usability, and ergonomic reach for one-handed operation.
• Manage PPAP documentation and component integration reviews.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely program milestones.
