Job Description: Lead Chess Instructor

Location: Bethesda, MD

The Lead Instructor at Chess Wizards plays a crucial role in aligning instructor performance with customer expectations and serves as a stepping stone toward future management opportunities. In addition to executing instructor responsibilities, the Lead Instructor trains, develops, and coaches other instructors.

Lead Instructor Essentials

• Reliable transportation to reach most classes in the metropolitan area
• Conduct interactive, friendly, and fun classes with 10-15 kids
• Minimum of 4 years of teaching, tutoring, or camp counseling experience
• Set an example of excellence in line with the Chess Wizards Mission Statement for Kids, Parents, School Administration, and Colleagues
• Availability during after-school hours at least 4 days a week; preference for 5 days during peak sessions
• Most classes start between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm; arrive 15 minutes early to prepare; stay until students are dismissed
• Paid per class, with an average commitment of 1.5-2 hours (excluding commute); longer classes pay more
• First choice for day camp opportunities during breaks
• Assist Area Manager with program visits, coaching, and quality control
• Train, coach, and evaluate instructors
• Troubleshoot program challenges and complete class evaluation reports
• Maintain communication with supervisors and engage with school administration and parents
• Uphold professional communication standards
