Job description

Summary:

The Lead Inspector's responsibility is to test items, identify and document defects, analyze products, and return defect products to adhere to client’s requirements and industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the internal inspection process to assure compliance with purchase order requirements utilizing AIT systems & processes.
  • Performs inspections using precision measurement equipment/devices.
  • Verifies measurements on the line, or when applicable bringing a part to a separate temperature-controlled room time to time for analysis.
  • Helps to create more efficient workflows and streamlines the inspection process.
  • Inspects parts on a FIFO basis, unless there is urgent inspection required on other parts.
  • Works along with the production force to build quality-in at the source.
  • Coordinates calibration/re-calibration activities and maintains all records of various tools, instruments and gauges used for product acceptance or verification/validation.
  • Rejects all products and materials that fail to meet quality expectations.
  • Performs regular quality assessments on all incoming materials from vendors and outgoing products for shipping.
  • Measures product dimensions, examines functionality, and compares the final product to the specifications.
  • Ensures proper operation of measurement equipment by following operating instructions.
  • Reports non-conformities to the proper channel.
  • Develops quality data packages for customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five years of quality inspection related experience and/or training.
  • Minimum of two years in Aerospace manufacturing/tooling.
  • Able to locate reference point(s) on parts and measure dimensions such as angle, arc, and radii, using combinations of aids, such as surface plate parallel bars, angle plates, gauge blocks, plug pins, V blocks, sine bars, and precision measuring instruments such as a height gauge.
  • Enova min level 2, 2D/MBS 3D min level 2 and/or Catia experience preferred.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

  • Performs consistently under stressful conditions.
  • Easy to approach and can build constructive and effective relationships.
  • Can handle frequent interruptions and can multi-task.
  • Identifies problems and reviews relevant information to develop options, then implements the solutions.
  • Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Works effectively with different levels of management, team members, and customers.

Work Conditions:

  • Indoors. Production and office environment. Temperature controlled, unless products and/or equipment are located outdoors.

Exposure Types:

  • Small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Cuts and/or burns.
  • Dirt, dust, grease and/or oil.
  • Intense bright light.
  • Metal shavings.

Work Hours:

  • Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may involve travel up to 20% of the time.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
