Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Aerospace Engineer to develop and maintain physics‑based models and simulations of inertial navigation systems. The role involves performance analyses, data validation from lab and flight tests, and collaboration across systems, hardware, and software teams to enable HIL/SIL verification.

Required are strong modeling skills, MATLAB/Simulink and Python proficiency, and experience with sensor data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree plus 3 years; PhD plus 1 year.
• Demonstrated experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis for complex systems.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and Python (or comparable environments).
• Experience processing and analyzing sensor or navigation data sets (e.g., IMU logs, flight test data, lab data).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; clear presentation of findings to technical/non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain physics-based models and simulations of inertial navigation systems (INS).
• Perform Monte Carlo analyses, sensitivity studies, and trade-off analyses to assess performance and margins.
• Analyze lab, flight, and field test data to validate models and identify discrepancies.
• Support requirements decomposition with model-based performance predictions and error budgets.
• Generate and maintain simulation frameworks and toolchains (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++).
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams to integrate models into HIL/SIL environments.
• Contribute to test planning with model-informed test cases and stress scenarios.
• Analyze test results and provide data-driven recommendations for design updates.
• Prepare technical documentation and executive-level presentations.
• Provide mentorship in modeling, simulation, and data analysis techniques.
