Job description

Lead Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, Nationally Certified

Assists the Pharmacist by coordinating the technical functions of the Inpatient Pharmacy under pharmacist supervision. Serves as a facilitator/ resource person to ensure effective department operation.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, rotating days/evenings (primarily evenings). Shift times include 7 am‑3 pm, 2 pm‑10 pm, 3 pm‑11 pm, 4 pm‑12 pm, 11 pm‑7 am. Occasional weekends and rotating holidays. Sign‑on bonus eligible.

Compensation: $18.30 per hour.

Department: Pharmacy – CCH-Pharmacy, Organization: Cape Cod Hospital, Location: Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and process departmental order requests.
  • Prepare medications for distribution to patient care units.
  • Distribute medications to patient care units.
  • Maintain medication inventory, place orders, check expiration dates, and process returns.
  • Perform billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
  • Maintain appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
  • Pre‑pack and label bulk medications to unit‑dosed containers.
  • Answer telephone calls, direct appropriately, and divert medication/clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the department.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Participate in educational programs, in‑services, and meetings as required.
  • Order medications from various suppliers.
  • Prepare parenteral products.
  • Train and orient new pharmacy support personnel.
  • Issue and deliver medications to an Automated Dispensing Cabinet in a timely manner.
  • Obtain patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR.
  • Ensure completion of daily technician tasks.
  • Ensure reconciliation of daily pharmacy orders.
  • Coordinate activity of support.
  • Generate pharmacy activity reports for review.
  • Maintain effective daily department operations and assist with staffing to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Requisition supplies, equipment,, and repair services, and prepare related forms.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other work‑related duties as requested/directed by a Pharmacist.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or equivalent certification.
  • Current Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician License.
  • At least 2 years of recent experience within the past 3 years as a Pharmacy Technician (internship included).
  • Preferred experience with compound sterile product preparation.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to triage work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients, and guests, and to serve effectively as part of the pharmacy team.
