  • Acts as a resource for Pharmacy Techs when questions or problems arise.
  • Assists manager with the day to day operation of the Community Pharmacy ensuring effective daily department operations and participates in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing in all administrative areas.
  • Trains and orients new employees and students on procedures and operations of the department.
  • Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies. Processes both new and refill prescriptions.
  • Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.
  • Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms.
  • Counts and labels products as assigned.
  • Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of Pharmacy Tech certification.
  • Obtains refill authorizations by communicating effectively with prescribers.
  • Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims.
  • Compounds oral and topical medications.
  • Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner.
  • Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s).
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system. Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles. Maintains POS product database. Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system. Generates, maintains and files all required reports.
  • Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns.
  • Ensures all recalled medications are removed from inventory and properly returned.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment.
  • Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions. Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies.
  • Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels. Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns. Follows-up on backorders. Rotates and maintains stock.
  • Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures.
  • Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories. Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor.
  • Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior. Reports all questionable practices to management.
  • Provides immunizations to patients at the pharmacy and at flu clinics once certified.
  • Stays current with Pharmacy trends.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Minimum of High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • (Pharm Tech) – Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Tech in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • (PTCB) – Current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • 2 years recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a pharmacy tech (Internship included).
  • Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to work under pressure.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to triage work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests and serves effectively as part of the department team in performing professional service to patients.
  • (Preferred) - 2 years recent (within the past 3 years) as a pharmacy tech in a Retail Pharmacy.
  • Immunization Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS within 1 year of hire.
Purpose of Position

Under direction of the Manager, or designee, perform duties to support the Community Pharmacy including assisting Pharmacists with processing prescriptions. Serves as a facilitator/resource person to ensure effective department operation.

Schedule Details

40 hours per week. Rotating days/eves. Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, 8am-4pm, 7am-3pm, 6:30am-2:30pm,10am-6pm, 11am-7pm, 11:30am-7:30pm. Saturday, Sunday and Holidays 8am-4pm. Sign-On Bonus Eligible!
