Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Lead Medical Records Coding Specialist to train and support new coding staff. You will audit inpatient and outpatient records, ensure coding policies reflect practice, and maintain data integrity in the electronic medical record, IHIS Resolute.

Responsibilities include coding at the conclusion of patient visits, selecting appropriate diagnoses and procedures, and abstracting admission details.

Qualifications

• 2-Year College Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associate Degree in Health Information Management or other qualifying associate degree in health care.
• RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC with CHONC certification (AHIMA) or CPC with CHONC.
• Minimum of two years of academic medical coding experience.
• 4 years of relevant experience required; 6+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Train and support new medical record coding specialists.
• Audit coding of records and ensure policy compliance.
• Ensure integrity of information in the electronic medical record (IHIS Resolute).
• Code medical records and other documents after patient visits.
• Select diagnoses and procedures, assign ICD-9/ICD-10/CPT-4 codes and abstract required data.
