Job summary

AbbVie’s Immunology Discovery Research organization seeks an impactful scientific leader to manage pioneering research in Gastroenterology/IBD. Lead a team focused on delivering novel therapeutics from target identification through preclinical development and first-in-human studies.

The ideal candidate will have deep mucosal immunology expertise, a proven track record in translational endpoints, and the ability to work across matrixed teams and external partnerships to advance patient-centric

Qualifications

• Advanced degree with 14+ years of related work, or PhD with 8+ years of related work experience.
• Experience with humanized CIVM models, including organoid-based models.
• 15+ years of industrial drug discovery experience with leadership of teams and projects.
• Track record of leading drug discovery initiatives from early research through preclinical and clinical transition.
• Collaborative and inclusive leadership with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing research team across career stages.
• Oversee in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies, including CIVMs and PKPD assessments.
• Direct drug discovery programs from early-stage conception to clinical candidate selection.
• Devise and implement research strategies addressing scientific objectives and trends.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to accelerate program advancement.
• Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure robust study design and data analysis.
• Promote knowledge sharing via publications and presentations to leadership and partners.
• Mentor and train direct reports to foster diversity and inclusion.
