Job summary

Rinker Design Associates, LLC is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to serve as the technical lead for hydrology and hydraulics on Virginia transportation projects. You will direct drainage design, stormwater management, and hydraulic modeling, coordinating with VDOT, DEQ, FEMA, and AASHTO standards.

The role includes mentoring engineers, preparing design packages, and supporting project proposals while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.

Qualifications

• Active Virginia P.E. license required.
• 12+ years of progressive hydrology/hydraulics experience for transportation or civil infra.
• Experience on VDOT roadway/bridge design projects and knowledge of VDOT processes.
• Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/InfoSWMM, MicroStation/OpenRoads, GIS ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage hydrologic and hydraulic design for transportation projects.
• Prepare, review, and seal drainage design packages and plans.
• Ensure designs comply with VDOT Drainage Manual, Road & Bridge Standards, FEMA NFIP, and AASHTO Green Book.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and QA for junior engineers.
• Coordinate with VDOT districts, local governments, environmental agencies, and design teams.
• Participate in public meetings and stakeholder coordination.
• Support proposals with technical scopes, LOE estimates, and schedules.
