Job summary

Hinds Community College is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform maintenance and repairs on all HVAC equipment across the district. The role requires a minimum 5 years of HVAC experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity, and EPA Universal Certification for refrigerants.

The ideal candidate will lead a team, interpret drawings, ensure safety compliance, and manage maintenance schedules while providing effective client and contractor communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED – Minimum baseline for entry into the field.
• Associate Degree in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration or Environmental Control Technologies – Preferred by many employers for advanced roles.
• EPA Universal Certification (Section 608) – Required for handling refrigerants.
• NATE certification – Preferred for advanced roles.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, split systems, and building automation controls.
• Lead and mentor a team of HVAC technicians, assigning tasks, reviewing work, and providing on-the-job training.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to plan and execute installations and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Respond to emergency service calls and oversee preventative maintenance schedules.
• Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal departments to coordinate work and resolve issues.
• Manage inventory of tools, parts, and equipment; recommend purchases and improvements.
• Document service reports, maintenance logs, and compliance records accurately.
