The U.S. Fleet Forces Command at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA is seeking an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER to supervise and perform HVAC installation, maintenance, and removal in nuclear work and radiologically controlled areas.

You will lead a crew, interpret blueprints, and coordinate inter-trade work, providing on-the-job training while ensuring adherence to shipyard instructions and safety procedures. Willingness to travel to related sites is required.

Qualifications

  • This job has a screen-out element used to determine minimum eligibility.
  • Screen-out element: Ability to lead or supervise; interpret blueprints; use and maintain tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work with inter-trade and inter-shop coordination and high level quality assurance.
  • Provide on the job training for workers and ensure procedures followed.
  • Inform the supervisor of progress, equipment and materials needed.
  • Utilize blueprints or sketches to plan and execute work tasks.
  • Lead workers to ensure plans, procedures, and tools are available to perform work operations.
  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary air conditioning services in nuclear work areas.
  • Provide HVAC maintenance on nuclear facilities, including installation and troubleshooting.
