What this job involves -The Lead HVAC Technician oversees the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This role provides technical leadership to the HVAC team while ensuring all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable regulations.

What is the day to day?

  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to HVAC technicians, including work assignment, quality control, and performance feedback
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in HVAC equipment
  • Install, maintain, repair, and overhaul heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems according to schedules
  • Respond to emergency service calls and coordinate team response
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on procedures, techniques, and safety protocols
  • Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for equipment and material procurement
  • Maintain detailed service records and prepare technical reports
  • Communicate effectively with management, clients, and team members regarding system status and project updates
  • And other duties as assigned or necessary

Required

  • 3+ years of commercial HVAC experience with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Valid EPA certification (Universal preferred) and required state/local HVAC licenses.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and digital controls.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
