Job summary

Ball State University is seeking an HVAC/R Supervisor to lead and coordinate the HVAC/R group across academic and administrative buildings on campus. The role includes directing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment with emphasis on energy efficiency and safety.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent in HVAC, refrigeration, or a related mechanical field.
• EPA Section 608 Universal certification under 40 CFR 82 Subpart F to handle all refrigerants, with proof of certification type provided upon request.
• Completion of a US Department of Labor registered apprenticeship in HVAC, or at least five years of commercial HVAC or refrigeration experience including low pressure chillers, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least three years of supervisory experience.
• Scissor lift operator certification or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire.
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and insurability under university policy.
• PC proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise HVAC/R group maintenance and repair, ensure preventive maintenance documentation and work orders.
• Oversee installation, adjustment, and repair of HVAC/R systems and related equipment.
• Oversee troubleshooting and calibration of controls on HVAC/R equipment and building automation systems.
• Supervise inspection, maintenance, and lubrication of pumps, motors, dampers, coils, and fans.
• Oversee central chilling plant equipment, geothermal chillers, cooling towers, and distribution systems.
• Manage safe handling of refrigerants and EPA compliance records under Section 608.
• Train and evaluate HVAC/R staff, approve time records, and coordinate cross-training.
• Maintain knowledge of chemicals and environmental issues related to HVAC/R.
