Job summary

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a Lead Building Service Engineer to oversee HVAC and related mechanical systems across Student Housing facilities. The role involves technical leadership, coordination of preventive maintenance, and adherence to safety standards, codes, and campus policies.

The incumbent will diagnose complex issues in building automation systems, respond to emergencies, and support reliable operation of housing and dining infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of journey-level Building Service Engineer experience.
• Experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and related systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• EPA/Certification preferred and California driver license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide lead direction to a small crew, assign and prioritize work orders.
• Coordinate maintenance and repair projects, estimating labor and materials.
• Ensure safety, codes, and campus policies are followed; promote safe practices.
• Maintain accurate work records using CMMS and track resources.
