Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Principal Human Factors Engineer to lead HF activities for the Lunar program, driving crew safety, operability, and system integration across crew interfaces and surface architectures.

You will develop verification strategies, analyze tasks and human error, and coordinate with NASA and design teams to translate findings into actionable requirements and architecture decisions. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of industry experience in human factors engineering or human-centered system design
  • Expertise in task analysis and human error analysis methodologies
  • Expertise in anthropometric analysis
  • Experience leading HITL test programs in safety-critical environments
  • Strong systems engineering background with requirements development and verification planning
  • Proven ability to influence system architecture through HF analysis
  • Experience working with NASA or other spaceflight stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster inclusion and trust in diverse teams

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Human Factors Engineering lead for the Lunar program, owning HF activities from requirements development through verification
  • Write and evaluate HF requirements ensuring they reflect crew safety and operability needs
  • Develop and own HF verification strategy and review verification events
  • Conduct task analyses and HEA for crew interfaces in collaboration with NASA
  • Lead HITL test campaigns across environments and translate results into design direction
  • Perform anthropometric analyses and ergonomic evaluations for design decisions
  • Partner with systems engineering to influence architecture based on HF findings
  • Interface with NASA Astronaut Office and other stakeholders
  • Mentor engineers and model technical excellence and collaboration
  • Contribute to enterprise HF frameworks and knowledge resources
