Job summary

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) seeks a HTS Research Scientist to lead the design, development, commissioning, integration, and new HTS technology development of a reel to reel coated conductor inspection system for high-field HTS measurements in a fusion-relevant environment.

The successful candidate will map intrinsic defects and Ic nonuniformities, partner with US industry, and contribute to national HTS standards and DOE science & technology roadmaps at PPPL in Princeton, NJ.

Qualifications

  • PhD in engineering physics, applied physics, or closely related field with at least 2 years postdoc/research experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with REBCO coated conductor inspection diagnostics and in-field scanning systems; hands-on with Hall sensor arrays.

Responsibilities

  • Low temperature HTS scanning system design, integration, and commissioning.
  • R2R integration and calibration with commercial HTS tapes and data acquisition.
  • Modular testbed development for conduction-cooled high-field magnets.
  • Model validation and dissemination of results via publications and conferences.
  • Coordination with PPPL, suppliers, and partners; mentoring junior researchers.
