Job summary

Chelsea Public Schools is seeking an Athletics - High School Head Coach for Spring Sports at Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MA. The role requires guiding student-athletes, coordinating practices, and ensuring safety and sportsmanship in line with MIAA standards.

The successful candidate will coach, mentor, and develop players, attend meetings, and collaborate with the Athletic Director to schedule in-season activities while upholding district policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; related work with children in education may substitute for the education requirement.
• Previous coaching experience in a similar sport strongly preferred.
• Must possess teaching and coaching techniques appropriate to the sport assigned.
• Current Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED and Concussion.
• Must be available to attend activities, practices and meetings outside of school hours as necessary.
• Certification as required by MIAA.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in basic and advanced skills for maximum achievement in the sport.
• Provides leadership to athletic team.
• Teaches, monitors and enforces standards of discipline and sportsmanship.
• Monitors adherence by athletes to the rules and regulations of the MIAA.
• Assists the Athletic Director in planning and scheduling regular in-season practices and adhering to the schedule.
• Keeps up to date with any necessary training for the assigned sport.
• Attends regular coach meetings organized by the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal to discuss eligibility, practice schedules, locations, documentation, equipment needs, and concerns.
• Creates an environment where students are supported to participate in the athletics program.
• Upholds and enforces safety rules and standards of the athletic program.
• Sets boundaries for students based on school rules.
• Models positive behavior and fair play for students.
• Instructs students in the proper use of equipment and sets up equipment for practice and games.
• Notifies Athletic Director promptly of any equipment misuse or replacement needs.
• Completes all necessary documentation for students to participate in the Athletics program and helps plan end-of-year awards party.
• Attends all meetings relating to the Athletics Program.
